The "Perfect Wall" in Cold Climates

In the January 2018 issue of RCI’s Interface technical journal, Applied Building Technology Group’s Tim Ahrenholz provides in-depth analysis on how to design the “perfect wall” in cold climates.  Ahrenholz argues, “The ‘perfect wall’ for both energy and moisture vapor performance uses foam insulation on the exterior of the wall studs with no vapor retarder on the interior of the studs.  Currently, neither the U.S. code nor the Canadian code completely allows the ‘perfect wall’ approach.”
